The Golden Circle

The Golden Circle is a vibrant hub for seniors’ to meet, build community and enjoy the company and support of their peers. Since 1977, the Centre has provided programs, activities, information, resources and outreach for older adults, their families and caregivers.

ATTENTION: ALL GOLDEN CIRCLE MEMBERS

With June 30th just around the corner I wish to update you on the status of programming at the Golden Circle. The Board of Directors have met and talked about opening the doors of the Golden Circle. We know most of you have been following the relaunch of businesses in the news and are hoping that we would be able to unlock the doors on June 30th and get back together, but I have to say that is not going to happen that way. The Golden Circle is home to the group that is at the  greatest risk of COVID 19, that being seniors. The virus is still active in our province and with the flow of people through the Red Deer area travelling north and south we have to be diligent in protecting the people we serve at the Golden Circle.  The letter we received from the City of Red Deer states that we are allowed to open but there are conditions. There are also conditions imposed by Alberta Public Health. We are accountable to both levels of government and must meet the criteria set by both. In order to meet these criteria the Board of Directors needs to look at capacity to meet the standards. We need a screening process at the front door, we need to establish contact lists on a daily basis, control the flow of traffic in the building, personal protection equipment, need to ensure sanitization protocols are in place, we need to enforce physical distancing in the building. Ethically can we use volunteers to help with the tasks? We have a small staff, and no extra money to hire staff to implement relaunch protocols. This is a trying time for everyone and the Board of Directors  is taking the well being of all members as the number one priority and are not taking this issue of safety lightly.  So we will be moving very slowly and hope to have some opportunities for people to gather by mid August, but again the number of reported cases provincially as well as locally will dictate final decisions. We will continue to communicate to you through the Friday emails as well as updating the website when changes are going to be implemented. The Outreach Department will continue to support older adults in the community like they have been doing since the beginning of COVID19.

Cheers,
Monica Morrison

The outreach frozen meal program is still available. Please call the office to place your order. Our grocery delivery and medical transportation is still available until further notice. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call the office at 403-343-6074 because the staff are still here to help you through this pandemic.

During this crisis our outreach services have become very important and we are working hard behind the scenes to support the community, but with the Golden Circle being closed people are not thinking membership renewal. Membership is one of the revenue generating opportunities that we have for the operations of the Golden Circle. We could use your help during this crisis. If your membership was due or will be between now and June 30th it would be a big help to call the office and use your credit card and renew your membership. This will go a long way to help us to continue to support our Red Deer community.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to send me an email at mmorrison@goldencircle.ca

Stay Safe, and Healthy!

Cheers,
Monica Morrison
