Red Deer used to have a Lawn Bowling Club for many years.
Unfortunately, it folded in 2011, due to declining membership, aging members and lack of lawn bowl green maintenance.
I am working to re-establish a Lawn Bowling Club in Red Deer, that would serve the Central Alberta area. Currently, lawn bowling clubs only exist in Edmonton, Calgary, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge.
I have met with the President of Bowls, Alberta and the City of Red Deer Recreational Facilitator. We have planned a promotional event to garner interest on September 5, 2019 (2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.). Professional instructors from Edmonton will be on hand at a temporary green in Red Deer to demonstrate the game and answer questions. The location will be finalized soon.
Established lawn bowling clubs usually charge a yearly fee and offer lawn bowling several times each week, on weekdays, evenings and weekends. You can buy your own bowls (they come in various sizes, to fit different sizes of hands) or the club can loan you a set. Lessons are usually held in the spring and also throughout the season. The season extends from spring through fall. Guests are welcome for a nominal daily fee. You can join as an individual or as a couple.
We will need to deal with issues such as permanent green location, green maintenance, club formation and so forth. But right now, the City of Red Deer would like to know that at least 50 and preferably 100 people in Red Deer and area would be interested in learning more about lawn bowling and possibly participating in the sport.
If you think you might be interested, would you contact me with your name and a telephone number or email address? This information would not be shared with anyone, but I must be able to tell the City of Red Deer officials that there is interest and I would need a way to contact you to keep you updated. Giving your name does not mean that you are making a commitment – only that you might be interested in the future.
Please contact me as soon as possible: email@example.com
Hoping to hear from you!
